Hawai‘i Community Lending will receive a $2.4-million loan from the US Department of Agriculture to finance 10 homes.
Hawaiʻi Community Lending is one of eight Native Community Development Financial Institutions to receive USDA funding to expand homeownership opportunities for Native communities, announced Roger Glendenning, the USDA Acting Under Secretary for Rural Development.
The USDA’s Native CDFI Relending Demonstration Program provides loans to the financial institutions to relend to eligible homebuyers on native lands. The pilot program is being administered under the Single Family Housing Direct Loan program.
“We are honored to partner with USDA to help provide homes for our native families here in Hawai‘i,” said Jeff Gilbreath, executive director of Hawaiʻi Community Lending. “The need for affordable housing has never been more crucial to the well-being of native communities.”
