BYU women’s basketball hammered Weber State from tip to halftime Friday morning in Provo on the way to a 77-49 victory.

Kenda Parra’s eight first-half points were the bright spot for an otherwise disastrous first half for Weber State (0-2) as BYU (2-0) took a 45-14 lead to the break.

BYU shot 17 of 26 (65%) in the first half to WSU’s 5 of 23 (22%).

The Wildcats won the third quarter 20-16 to keep the margin from ballooning further.

Parra and Jadyn Matthews each scored 11 points to lead Weber State, with Matthews shooting 3 of 5 from the 3-point line. Laura Taylor and Daryn Hickok each added eight points while Sierra Davis totaled seven points.

Star forward Lauren Gustin led BYU with 24 points and 12 rebounds in 29 minutes, shooting 10 of 13 from the floor. Freshman guard Kailey Woolston knocked down four 3-pointers on her way to 19 points, including 10 in the first quarter.

Fremont High alum Emma Calvert totaled seven points and two rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench for the Cougars.

WSU won the turnover battle 16-15.

BYU next hosts Utah Valley on Tuesday.

Weber State next plays at Boise State (1-0) on Monday night.
