The gubernatorial candidates continue to talk about data centers, and Florida voters will decide in November whether to exempt agricultural businesses from what’s called the tangible personal property tax.
Jolly, Donalds continue to address data centers
Debate or not, with a little over six weeks until Election Day, the candidates are on the campaign trail talking about a handful of major issues, among them, how to manage data centers.
Earlier this week, David Jolly traveled to a section of Northern Virginia known as “Data Center Alley” to get a firsthand look at the impact those facilities have on surrounding communities.
On Friday, Jolly described hearing loud noise pollution, and stories he heard from those who live in the area of decreased property value, along with the closure of restaurants and food stores as people choose to move away.
Jolly’s opponent, Byron Donalds, was also asked about data centers this week during an event in Orlando.
He reiterated his support for local governments to make their own decisions about data center developments, adding that if elected he would follow through on an ongoing effort to investigate the affects data centers would have on Florida communities.

Debate over amendment that would affect agricultural businesses
Florida voters will decide in November whether to exempt agricultural businesses from what’s called the tangible personal property tax.
It’s an annual levy businesses pay for equipment they own that can be moved around.
The exemption would spare Florida farmers and agriculture from paying a tax on these items, which they’ve already paid for and own.
State economists estimate it could save Florida’s AG industry about $31 million a year.
In turn, however, it could cost cities and counties a truckload in revenue.
Opponents of the amendment say the money could be used to offset environmental affects.
This proposal comes as Florida farmers try to rebound after historic losses, including from the 2024 hurricanes.
