Ohio has over $746M in sports bets placed in October

CLEVELAND — October was a banner month for the state of Ohio in regards to legalized sports betting, along with neighbors Pennsylvania and Michigan.

The Ohio Casino Control Commission reported the first 10 months of data related to wagering on sports.

While Ohio’s record month came in January, when sports betting became legalized, more than $746 million was wagered in October.

October ranks second in Ohio in both online bets and total bets. Meanwhile, more than $1.1 billion was wagered in January.

The field, dominated primarily by football, has seen wager increases in September and October.

Ohio’s neighbors, Pennsylvania and Michigan, reported a record number of online wagers placed on sports in October.

Michigan reported more than $533 million was wagered online on sports in October. Meanwhile, Pennsylvania reported more than $773 million was wagered online on sports in October.

The majority of wagers are placed online or on a mobile device. FanDuel and DraftKings are Ohio’s leading mobile operators. More than $258 million was wagered on FanDuel and DraftKings in October.

The taxable revenue from sports betting in 2023 is nearly $780M.

Data for the month of November will be released at the end of December.
