A look at what’s happening in Cleveland State Athletics…

Men’s Golf
-Cleveland State will host its lone home event of the season this week, hosting the Tom Tontimonia Invitational on Monday, October 2 and Tuesday, October 3. 
-The 54-hole event will take place at Lakewood Country Club in Westlake, with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start on Monday. 
-The Vikings will welcome 15 teams for the invite, the largest field in the history of the event. 

Volleyball
-The Vikings will play just one match this week, traveling to Oakland on Friday, October 6 to continue #HLVB play.
-Cleveland State enters the week with a 9-8 record on the season, including an even 3-3 mark in Horizon League action.
-Through the first six weeks of the 2023 campaign, Cleveland State leads the league averaging 2.59 blocks per set, while the Vikings rank second with 16.51 digs per set. 

Women’s Soccer
-Cleveland State will continue #HLWSOC play with two games this week, hosting Youngstown State on Thursday, October 5 and traveling to Northern Kentucky on Sunday, October 8. 
-Last time out, the Vikings earned a 1-1 draw at Green Bay, with Brooke Opferman scoring in the eighth minute.  

Men’s Soccer
-The Vikings will hit the road for their lone contest of the week, traveling to IUPUI on Saturday, October 7. 
-Last time out, Cleveland State split its two games, falling at Dayton in a non-league matchup before earning a 2-1 victory against Northern Kentucky. 
-Pablo Kawecki posted two goals and an assist on the week, and has now scored in four straight games.  

Cross Country
-Cleveland State will take a break from competition, returning to the course for the Falcon Invite on Friday, October 13.
-Last time out, the Vikings participated in the Notre Dame Invite, with freshman Natalie Keller posting a team-best 5K time of 19:17. 
-Madelynn Madison (19:38) and Ana Crangle (19:58) both notched personal-best 5K times at the Notre Dame Invite. 

Swimming & Diving
-After opening the 2023-24 campaign last weekend, the Vikings will now be off from competition until late October. 
-Brooke Eichel had the lone win for the women at Miami (OH), scoring 213.45 points to win the 3M Diving event.
-The men’s team won three events on the day; 1000 Free (Jackson Nester), 100 Back (Paddy Johnston) and 50 Free (Josh Merchbaker). 

Women’s Golf
-The Vikings will be back in action this week, participating in the Shirley Spork Invitational hosted by EMU on Monday, October 2 and Tuesday, October 3.
-This week’s field will feature 11 teams, including five Horizon League teams.
-The Shirley Spork Invitational will be a 54-hole event, with the first two rounds scheduled for Monday and the third and final round slated for Tuesday. 

Men’s Tennis
-Cleveland State will be off from competition until later this month, returning to action at the ITA Midwest Regional (October 19-23).
-Last time out, the Vikings opened their fall campaign at the YSU Invite, while Mikael Erler represented Cleveland State at the ITA All-American Championships. 
-Erler went 1-1 in the prequalifying draw at the ITA All-American Championships, while Carl Gedlitschka and Devin Boyer went 3-0 in singles at the YSU Invite to lead the Vikings. 

Viking Of The Week Nominees
Carl Gedlitschka, Men’s Tennis
Opened the 2023 fall campaign with a perfect 3-0 singles record and 3-0 doubles record at the YSU Invite. Earned singles wins against YSU, EKU and Xavier, and doubles wins against Bellarmine, EKU and Duquesne. 

Pablo Kawecki, Men’s Soccer
Recorded two goals and an assist on the week, including the game-winning goal against Northern Kentucky in #HLMSOC play. He now leads the team with five goals and 12 points on the year. 

Jackson Nester, Men’s Swim & Dive
Turned in a winning performance in the 1000-yard Freestyle at Miami (OH), along with a pair of runner-up finishes in the 200 Back and 200 IM. 

Emma Walker, Volleyball
Recorded a trio of 20-dig performances on the week, averaging 5.46 digs per set. Has now posted 10 20-dig performances on the year, including five straight entering the week.
