A holiday tradition is set to continue on Dec. 9 at Savoy’s Industrial Donut. Patrons who stop by that morning will have a chance to take photos with Santa Claus and the Grinch.
“The whole area comes, and we just kind of tried it out to begin with, and it was such a huge hit,” store co-owner Becca Powers said. “People were waiting outside the door. I mean, it was so cold, and Santa actually had to stay late because he wanted to see everyone … it just kind of became something that people look forward to and every year.”
An annual visit from the holiday icons isn’t where the celebration ends for Industrial Donut. The shop at 501 Commerce Drive has a slew of holiday-themed boxes available for pre-order in addition to its regular array of festive donuts available at the counter.
“Our main one is the Ho Ho Ho Box,” Powers said. “It’s a dozen doughnuts that are decorated for just more Christmasy and holiday themed, and people can get those via pre-order … some are 24 hours notice, some are like two hours notice. But you can always walk in and get Christmas sprinkles and rings.”
Winter draws plenty of families to Industrial Donut, which Powers says is busy in waves throughout the year depending on holidays, birthdays and other special events.
“Families come to visit, and people want to show their family members an experience that they can’t get anywhere else,” Powers said. “So we’ll have lots of families that’ll bring in this large group and show off what Savoy and Champaign-Urbana have to offer.”
