BOSTON – Riding a season-high four-game win streak, the Boston University men’s basketball team will host Colgate Monday evening with the CBS Sports Network broadcast set for a 6 p.m. start time.
The teams will face off for the first time since the Raiders edged the Terriers at home in OT, 80-79, back on Jan. 24. Both squads had two players finish with 20+ points in a thrilling contest that featured nine ties and 13 lead changes.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU started the current streak with a 72-64 victory at Holy Cross on Feb. 2 and followed up with a 78-69 home win vs. Loyola Maryland, 85-68 victory at Army West Point and most recently an 82-69 win vs. Bucknell at Case Gym.
- Averaging a team-high 16.9 ppg, junior Michael McNair scored 28 points for his ninth 20+ point performance of the season against the Bison. His 89 3-pointers rank seventh nationally and are six shy of tying John Papale’s (’16) program record.
- Sophomore Ben Defty is on pace to shatter the program record for field goal shooting percentage with a current 69.9 FG% mark. Leader with six double-doubles, he’s averaging 14.8 ppg and a team-high 7.0 rpg.
- Freshman Chance Gladden (13.8 ppg, 4.8 apg) claimed his second double-double (14 pts., 11 asts.) at Army last Wednesday and tied Defty against Bucknell with six assists apiece.
- The Terriers are averaging 76.3 ppg and 48.8 FG% while holding opponents to 75.5 ppg and 46.7 FG%. During the current win streak, the offensive numbers have increased to 79.3 ppg and 52.0 FG%.
SCOUTING COLGATE
- The Raiders are 9-7 away from Cotterell Court with notable wins over UAlbany (69-67), Fordham (72-62) alongside an 80-69 loss at then-No. 22 Michigan State and 95-94 2OT defeat at Cornell.
- Owner of a triple-double, 6-foot-3 guard Jalen Cox is averaging 17.2 ppg, 5.5 apg, 5.1 rpg and 1.9 spg, while 6-foot-8 forward Andrew Alekseyenko averages 14.8 ppg and 6.8 rpg.
- Colgate is averaging 76.5 ppg and 48.5 FG% while holding teams to 73.0 ppg and 43.4 FG%.
- Raiders rank 32nd in field goal shooting percentage and are also 64th in committing just 10.5 turnovers per game.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Raiders lead the all-time series, 36-31, with the home team winning each of the last three contests.
- Back in January, Cox hit a layup and free throw to tie the game at 66-66 with 45 seconds left in regulation. Both teams missed on their final possession to head to OT.
- Gladden gave BU its final lead on a layup with 23 seconds left, as Cox hit what proved to be the game-winning jumper at 10 seconds. The Raiders sealed the win by blocking Gladden’s shot attempt and forcing Hughes into a tough shot at the end that was off the mark.
- In the last meeting at Case Gym, BU pulled out a 93-91 double-overtime victory and currently only has 35 of those points available.
- Since BU defeated Colgate for the 2020 PL title, the Raiders have posted a 12-2 record.
LOOKING AHEAD
- After playing two games in three days with only eight players available, the Terriers will take a break and next hit the road for Lehigh on Sunday (Feb. 22) with a 12 p.m. tip.
- The contest will air live on CBS Sports Network.
- The Mountain Hawks escaped with a 93-91 OT victory at Case Gym back in January.
