Selma City Council Finance Committee met this week

The Judicial Department was one of the highlights in Monday’s Selma City Council Finance Committee meeting.

Council Members present at the meeting were: City Council President Billy Young, Council members Troy Harvill, Michael Johnson, Christie Thomas, Atkin Jemison, Jannie Thomas and Sam Randolph. Harvill is the finance committee Chairperson.

Selma Municipal Judge Donovan McGuire appeared at the meeting and discussed what the department  needs.

“We need a ZOOM feature to increase technology for court cases,” McGuire said.

Young said that the Judicial Branch should work Independently from the Executive Branch and Legislative Branch. He added that the Judicial Department should submit their budget request.

McGuire said he’d talk to Selma Municipal Judge  Brandon J. Wooten, who was not at the meeting, about what the department needs.
