BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Forty-five million Americans are expected to travel domestically for Memorial Day Weekend, and according to The U.S. News and World Report, one of the top travel destinations is Boston.
Immersed in history and considered the birthplace of the American Revolution, visitors can bask in historical sites, including the 37,000-flag display that honors the fallen each Memorial Day, or take a picture with the Robert Gould Shaw and Massachusetts 54th Regiment statue, which honors the first all-black regiment from the Northern states to serve in the Union Army during the Civil War.
Home to the oldest marathon, out-of-towners have plenty of walkable tours they can partake in, including The Black Heritage Trail, The Boston Equality Trail, and The Women’s Heritage Trail, just to name a few. Susan of Beacon Hill had a few suggestions of her own.
“Obviously, do the Freedom Trail. Down in Seaport, there are lots of cool things that have popped up. Cisco Brewery. Obviously, the park here and maybe on the top of the PRU — that new view place,” says Susan. “That would be fun for people to go to.”
After the trails, visitors can head to Fenway Park to watch the Red Sox take on the Baltimore Orioles from Friday, May 23 to Sunday, May 25.

ICE custody immediately Friday.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>\u003ca href=\”https://wbznewsradio.iheart.com/content/tufts-graduate-student-detained-by-ice-university-searching-for-answers/\” target=\”_blank\”>ICE agents took Ozturk off the streets of Somerville in late March\u003c/a> and transferred her to a Louisiana detention center. The Trump administration also canceled her student visa.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>\u003cstrong>Read More: Retired Supreme Court Justice David Souter Dies at 85\u003c/strong>\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>The White House accuses the Turkish student of engaging in activities in support of Hamas, citing an op-ed she co-wrote last year criticizing Tufts’s response to student protests on campus and calling on the university to divest from Israel. Her lawyers argue that she has not been charged with any crime and is being persecuted for protected speech.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>Ozturk appeared virtually at a bail hearing in a Burlington, Vermont courtroom Friday, saying her six weeks at the detention center has hurt her health and led to increasingly severe asthma attacks.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>A medical expert vouched for Ozturk’s diagnosis and explained how her detention makes it much harder for her to control her symptoms.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>The court also heard from Ozturk’s doctoral advisor at Tufts, who called Ozturk a model student and an asset to the school’s community.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>At the conclusion of the hearing, Judge Williams Sessions agreed with Ozturk’s lawyers that her First Amendment and due process rights were violated when she was detained, and noted that the only evidence the government presented in the case was the op-ed.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>Sessions granted Ozturk bail with no travel restrictions, allowing her to return to her home in Somerville and continue her studies as removal proceedings continue.\u003c/p>\n\n\u003cp>”We’re pleased that the court has approved Rumeysa’s request to be released on bail, and we look forward to welcoming her back to campus to resume her doctoral studies,” a Tufts spokesperson told WBZ NewsRadio. “As we have noted previously, Rumeysa is a student in good standing, and nothing in her co-authored op-ed of March 26, 2024, in The Tufts Daily student newspaper violated either the university’s gatherings, protests, and demonstrations policy or its Declaration on Freedom of Expression.
