After nearly a decade, the moms of Monterey are ready to reunite for Season 3 of Big Little Lies.
Reese Witherspoon, who executive produces and stars as Madeline Mackenzie in the HBO drama, recently gave an update on the long-awaited return of the show after Deadline exclusively reported that Season 3 is in the works.
“We might be working on Season 3,” she said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “Yeah, I mean, they’re writing it. It’s exciting too, just to get the gang back together and have everybody start talking about it. It’s really fun.”
Witherspoon acknowledged that it’s “been a minute” since she got all her co-stars together after Season 2 concluded in 2019, following the 2017 premiere of the show based on Liane Moriarty‘s 2014 novel.
“It’s been about 10 years, maybe nine years?” added Witherspoon. “And all those little kids [who] were in second grade, they’re all teenagers now. And being a mom of a teenager, it is a lot of big little lies.”
As Deadline reported Thursday, Francesca Sloane (Mr. & Mrs. Smith) has been tapped to write the first episode of Season 3 as part of an exclusive two-year overall deal she inked with HBO. Sloane will executive produce alongside series creator David. E. Kelley and stars Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman.
