Political Prisoner Denied Critical Medical Treatment in Evin Prison

Date:

Siamak Amini, a political prisoner held in Evin Prison, has been denied access to specialized medical treatment and required medications for over a year, despite suffering from an autoimmune disease and severe osteoporosis.

An informed source close to the prisoner’s family told HRANA that the political prisoner has not received his required therapeutic injection for more than a year, despite the medication needing to be administered every four months. According to the source, the family has scheduled appointments at specialized medical facilities at least four times during this period for diagnostic tests and the injection, but their efforts have repeatedly proved futile.

The source added that on June 22 this year, Amini was transferred to Taleghani Hospital in Tehran due to the lack of medical facilities inside the prison. However, because he refused to wear the mandatory prison uniform and submit to handcuffs and shackles, his treatment was left incomplete. Following a basic X-ray, he was returned to prison without completing his medical evaluations.

Prolonged use of corticosteroid medications and the ongoing deprivation of periodic medical checkups have led to severe osteoporosis, which recently resulted in a fracture in his lower ribs.

Siamak Amini was arrested on August 4, 2024, after reporting to the Criminal Execution Branch of the Evin Prosecutor’s Office, and was transferred to Evin Prison to begin serving his sentence. He had previously been sentenced by Branch 36 of the Tehran Provincial Appeals Court to four years, one month, and 17 days in prison on charges of “assembly and collusion” and “propaganda against the regime.” The court also imposed supplementary penalties, including a two-year ban on membership in political and social organizations, smartphone use, and foreign travel.

Born in 1962, Amini is a former political prisoner from the 1980s who spent five years in prison between 1984 and 1989. He is currently serving his sentence in Ward 7, Hall 1 of Evin Prison.
