Opinion: Defense attorney in Pacific Beach antifa consipiracy case leans on political approach

Date:

Re “Judge won’t disqualify San Diego district attorney in antifa conspiracy case” (Nov. 17): If the Antifa “counterprotesters” showed up at the January 2021 “Patriot March” in Pacific Beach to exercise their right to peacefully protest, why were they all dressed in identical black tactical gear with their faces covered? The accompanying photo shows some wearing helmets and all with their faces covered — not in COVID masks, but clothing, floppy hats and masks that were meant to conceal their identity from law enforcement. It seems like criminal intent to me.

Similar to the defense tactics during the 1960s unrest, criminal defense attorney Curtis Briggs is trying to turn criminal misconduct into a political issue. Shades of William Kunstler.
