AUSTIN, Texas – No. 8 Texas Volleyball’s Bella Bergmark has been named the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Bergmark helped lead the Longhorns to back-to-back wins over then-No. 9 BYU with six total blocks in each match. The Larkspur, Calif. native ranked second among Big 12 players with 1.50 blocks per set for the week while helping to extend the Longhorns’ home Big 12 winning streak to 69 straight matches. Bergmark was also an offensive threat, finishing with 15 kills for the week including 10 in Friday’s win over the Cougars.
This is Bergmark’s first career Big 12 weekly honor and it is the third time this season a Texas middle blocker has been named the league’s defensive player of the week.
The Longhorns host No. 17 Kansas for a pair of matches this week, starting on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Gregory Gym.
