MINNEAPOLIS — It’s three letters that bring a four-day weekend to students across the state. MEA weekend is one of the busiest travel times of the year for the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
The busiest travel times will be Thursday.
“We’re expecting a very strong week of travel through MSP as more Minnesotans are taking advantage of pre-winter travel opportunities this year,” said Brian Ryks, CEO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC), which operates MSP.
The airport has increasingly seen higher demand since the pandemic, but MAC-MSP spokesperson Jeff Lea says this could be a record-breaking day for 2023. He says they have extra staff in place to accommodate the forecasted numbers.
“Airlines have scheduled more flights and more seat capacity from MSP in the last year and that will certainly help to meet expected passenger demand through MEA week,” Ryks said.
