MHS Athletic Hall of Fame Tickets On Sale

Tickets are now on sale for the 2023 Marietta High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

On Oct. 7 at the Lafayette Ball room at 6 p.m., Bill Whetsell, Bob Warden, Roger Mooney, K.C. Meade, David Burke, Jeff Walker, and Ben Howlett will be inducted.

Tickets are $ 40 or a table of 8 is $ 300, which includes a buffet dinner.

They can be purchased in advance only by reaching Jim Humphrey 740-629-4867 or any board member.

MXC Alumni 5K Run & Walk

The Marietta High School cross country program is holding an Alumni & Friends 5K Run & Walk on Saturday, Aug. 6, at Broughtons Nature and Wildlife Preserve.

The race is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. Registration is $25 per person ($20 per alumni).

Pre-registration closes on July 28. Includes race T-shirt.

New Football Officials Class

Certification to become a registered football official this fall for both Ohio and West Virginia is starting soon.

There are now options to do RefReps courses online combined with in-person instruction to make it a more flexible way to get certified.

Also, if you are 16 years old you are eligible to complete and be able to work games at the middle school and youth levels.

OVAC Hall of Fame Tickets on Sale

Tickets for the 19th OVAC Hall of Fame Induction Banquet slated Saturday, Aug. 12 at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling are currently on sale.

Tickets are $30 each or $240 for a table of eight, and reservations should be made by July 22.

This year’s Hall of Fame inductees are Kelly Rine (OVAC Family), Bob Robinson (OVAC Contributor), Don Cash (Official), Bob Dawson and Penn Kurtz (Coaches), Dick Reasbeck and Mike Tomasovich (1950s Athletes), Al Salvadori and Ted Tomasovich (1960s Athletes), Steve Doe and Lance LaFollette (1970s Athletes), Tim McCrate and Shawn Straughn (1980s Athletes), Jessica Hines and Fred Ray (1990s Athletes), Jennie Castle and Koel Davia (2000s Athletes), Justin Fox and Max Nogay (2010s Athletes).

The five “Legends of the OVAC: are Rich Braham, Mike DeVol, Jedd Gyorko, Cyril Letzelter and Jim Presley.

Lady Patriot Basketball Camp

The Lady Patriot girls basketball camp is scheduled for Aug. 1-2 at Parkersburg South High School.

The camp runs from 11 a.m.-1:15 p.m. for girls in grades 2-5 and will continue from 1:45-4 p.m. for girls in grades 6-8.

The entry fee is $40. If cost is an issue, contact 304-588-5077.

The camp is being conducted by the Parkersburg South girls basketball coaching staff and players. Guess instructors are also scheduled to be on hand.

Drinks will be provided during the camp. Food will be provided on the second of the camp.

All participants receive a T-shirt.

Awards will be presented for skill competitions and for being a good teammate.

Wirt County Hall of Fame Scramble

The inaugural Wirt County Hall of Fame golf scramble will have a 1 p.m. shotgun start on Sunday, Aug. 13 at Mingo Bottom Golf Club.

All proceeds go toward raising money for the newly organized Wirt County Sports Hall of Fame.

Entry fee is $50 per player, hole sponsorships are available for $25 and registration will be at noon.

Cash prizes to be determined based on field size.

There will be a 50-50 raffle and each foursome member can buy three mulligans for $5.

MOVTA Hosts Tennis Tourney

The Wood County Recreation Commission and executive director Bill Vincent have announced that a tennis tournament will be held during the Honey Festival, Aug. 26-27, at City Park tennis courts in Parkersburg.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Tennis Association (MOVTA) is hosting the tournament, which includes a USTA doubles division for both juniors (various age divisions) and adults. Registration can be submitted through the USTA web site. USTA membership is required, but free for junior to enter.

Deadline for registration is Aug. 23.
