BTN
estimates Meta 2022 U.S. point-of-sale air volume rose to $185.5 million in
2022.

The
social media giant had reported total revenues of $116.6 billion in 2022, down
1 percent from the prior year. Costs and expenses rose 38 percent from $29
billion, partly due to “increased travel, infrastructure, and legal
compliance costs associated with multiple international locations, including
difficulties arising from personnel working remotely.” The company laid
off more than 20,000 employees in the past 10 months, leaving it with more than
66,000 employees. As of September 2023, office workers have been asked to
return to their locations at least three days a week.

Meta’s
financial results showed much improvement in 2023, reporting six-month revenue
of $60.6 billion, up 7 percent from the same period in 2022. Costs and expenses
were more controlled, rising 10 percent for the period. The company made
several purchases in 2022 and 2023, including studios
Camouflaj, Armature Studi, and
Twisted Pixel, as well as German-based start-up Presize, and virtual reality
startup Within.

Meta’s
sustainability goals include reaching net zero emissions across the value chain
by 2030, including emissions from data centers, offices, and supply chains.
Business travel makes up 3 percent of Meta’s 2022 Scope 3 carbon footprint.
