Smiles, happy tears, and moments of disbelief filled the Group Health Centre (GHC) Trust Fund as two residents of Sault Ste. Marie were celebrated as the winners of the 2026 Big Wish Lottery. After months of anticipation and thousands of tickets purchased to support local healthcare, Susan Graham and Paul Sharpe saw their Big Wishes come true.

Susan Graham of Sault Ste. Marie won the $25,000 cash prize (ticket #99023308001). The prize provides flexibility and freedom, which for Graham and her family means a few extra trips west to visit their new grandbaby.

Paul Sharpe of Sault Ste. Marie (ticket #1500445004) is celebrating a win of his own. As the winner of the $25,000 vacation cash prize and four tickets to the Toronto Blue Jays Home Opener, Sharpe is already looking ahead to an unforgettable experience—one that combines once-in-a-lifetime excitement with lasting memories.

“I immediately purchased additional seats in the same section so the whole family could join,” said Sharpe.

Having had knee replacement surgery in November, he bought his ticket while at GHC for a regular physiotherapy appointment.

“I’m getting back to full strength after my surgery, and thanks to the GHC physio team, I’m ready for this trip. We can’t wait,” Sharpe added.

“Meeting the winners and seeing their reactions is what makes this so special,” said Amelia Stuetz, Trust Fund Coordinator.

“Susan, Paul and all our winners remind us why the community supports Big Wish year after year. The joy it brings is unforgettable.”

While the spotlight shines brightly on the winners, the true impact of the Big Wish Lottery goes beyond these joyful moments. Each ticket purchased represents a shared belief in the importance of connected, accessible healthcare close to home.

“Community support through the Big Wish Lottery truly makes a difference,” said Lil Silvano, CEO of Group Health Centre.

“This year, every dollar raised will go towards purchasing diagnostic imaging equipment that plays a vital role in providing timely, high-quality care to the community.”

Proceeds from the 2026 Big Wish Lottery will fund new ultrasound equipment for community diagnostic imaging, a crucial public service that aids early detection, accurate diagnosis, and prompt treatment.

The GHC Trust Fund extends its heartfelt congratulations to Susan and Paul, and sincere thanks to Merrett’s and GHC Pharmacies IDA for sponsoring the five Early Wish draws, the community businesses that donated towards the Early Wish draws, and everyone who purchased tickets and supported this year’s campaign. Our community continues to turn big wishes into big impact.
