In a foodie-centered city like San Antonio, the “best brunch” battle is brutal, and one popular spot is reportedly bowing out of the Alamo City arena with a big rebrand.
According to a Monday news release, 35 locations of Maple Street Biscuit Company — a subsidiary of Tennessee-born Cracker Barrel — have been acquired by Biscuit Belly, a Kentucky-based brunch spot founded in 2019 by husband-and-wife team Chad and Lauren Coulter.
“I’ve got some exciting news to share with you,” Lauren said in a Wednesday Instagram post. “We are actually acquiring Maple Street Biscuit Company … This is a really, really big step for us. We are going to go from 15 current stores to about 50 in 10 states,” she added. “Starting this fall, we’ll actually begin converting these locations into Biscuit Bellies.”
Maple Street Biscuit Company debuted in San Antonio in March 2022 with the opening of its Quarry Village location. Soon after, the chain welcomed its second and third locations at 10650 Culebra Rd. in the Alamo Ranch area and 17202 Bulverde Rd. on the Northeast Side, according to a MySA report.
Biscuit Belly representatives confirmed that while eatery’s Quarry Village and Northeast Side locations will reportedly shutter for good, the Alamo Ranch location will be converted to the new brand sometime between October and December next year.
According to Lauren, the acquisition spells a significant increase for the brand’s nationwide footprint. “(We’re) bringing our menu, our fun take on hospitality and breakfast, our culture into the communities that we already know … we think you’re ready for us,” she said.
