TREASURE ISLAND — A 61-year-old man was taken into custody after his 86-year-old father was killed in a hit-and-run Saturday evening.
At approximately 8:36 p.m. Saturday, Pinellas County deputies assigned to the major accident investigation team responded to a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian crash at R Bar, located at 245 108th Ave. in Treasure Island.
Thomas McKeown was hit and dragged multiple times in the parking lot of the bar, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say Mark McKeown, the son of the victim, backed a black 2019 Dodge Ram pickup truck into a parking space. Thomas McKeown walked toward the truck and fell on the ground in front of it. The driver of the truck ran him over, then backed up and moved forward multiple times, before fleeing the scene. Impairment appeared to be a factor in the crash.
Thomas McKeown was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
This investigation is ongoing.
