PETOSKEY–After a lengthy weather delay due to lightning pushed back a 7 p.m. start time until after 9 p.m., the Alpena High football team had a rough first half against Petoskey on Friday during a Big North Conference game.
Joseph McCarthy threw four-first half touchdowns for the Northmen, who led 36-0 at halftime.
McCarthy connected on his first five passes for more than 200 yards and had three touchdowns.
Petoskey wasted no time scoring, using a long pass to set up a touchdown on its first drive of the game.
Alpena nearly answered a short time later when Cruz Guthrie caught a fourth-down heave in the end zone, but Alpena was called for a penalty on the play.
Petoskey led 12-0 after one quarter and stifled the Wildcats on a fourth-and-goal play to early in the second quarter. The Northmen scored on the very next play as Seth Marek found a hole and run 98 yards for the score.
Petoskey added another score shortly before the half along with a 35-yard field goal.
Alpena (1-3) entered Friday’s game looking to break a three-game losing streak.

Posen 48, Mio 2
Jack Romel and Eli Chojacki combined for six touchdowns and the Posen High football team earned another big victory on Thursday, beating Mio 48-2.
Romel was 7-of-9 passing for 125 yards and two scores for Posen (5-0). He also had 11 carries for 143 yards and a touchdown.
Chojnacki had four carries for 24 yards and a touchdown and two catches for 65 yards and a touchdown.
Ethan Romel had five catches for 35 yards and a score for the Vikings and Logan Timm had three catches for 27 yards and a touchdown. Andy Budnick had one catch for 27 yards.
On defense, Owinn Commerford had nine solo tackles and four assists; Chojnacki had seven solo tackles and 12 assists; Colton Paull had six solo tackles and two assists; Timm had five solo tackles and six assists; and Jack Romel had an interceptions.
Posen hosts Rock-Mid Pen on Sept. 30 at 1 p.m.
GIRLS GOLF
Alpena shoots 386 at home
ALPENA — The Alpena High girls golf team had its best round of the year Friday at home during the Alpena Invitational, finishing with a team score of 386.
Sydney Silver was second individually, with an 88 and Josephine Cabana was a JV medalist with a 103.
BOYS SOCCER
Alpena 2, Cadillac 1
ALPENA — The Alpena High boys soccer team rallied from an early 1-0 deficit on Thursday to beat Cadillac 2-1 in a Big North Conference contest.
Alpena is scheduled to host its annual Huron Shores Tournament today.
