Tim Curley’s Liner Notes offers the scoop on not to miss music and entertainment around Sonoma Valley
Bayou Moon
A new trio is in town and performing Sunday, Aug. 10 at the El Verano Inn. Calling themselves Bayou Moon, they are Sharyn Paquette, a well-known chanteuse around town, Marek Webb on bass, Jim St.l Marie on guitar, John Farey handles the keys and vocals, and Jim Sides will keep them all on time from his trap set.
If past tendencies hold, Paquette will deliver a pop/bluesy/jazzy set. The band is top notch. The music starts at 7 p.m. at El Verano Inn, 705 Laurel Ave.
Jenni and Dave
Two good shows are happening back-to-back in Glen Ellen at Passaggio Wines Saturday, Aug. 9 and Sunday, Aug. 10. The Saturday show features Glen Ellen’s favorite son Dave Aguilar and the Sunday show highlights the considerable vocals skills of Jenni Purcell.
The performance space at Passaggio is perfectly suited for a small band and attentive audience. It is a delight to both perform there and to listen there. The shows at Passaggio kick off at 2 p.m. at 14301 Arnold Drive, Suite 1 in Glen Ellen (in Jack London Village).
Comedy at SSC
Friday, Aug. 8 is a big night at the Sonoma Community Center. They are hosting the Valley Laughs Comedy Show in what they are calling the “Laugh Lounge,” aka Andrews Hall. Headlining the show is Frankie Marcos, with support by Natalie Diaz and hosted by Brian Thomas.
Marcos is the winner of the 2024 San Francisco International Comedy Competition, and therefore is no slouch. Diaz has appeared at Cobb’s Comedy Club and the Sacramento Punch Line and has taken the stage at SF Sketchfest. Thomas has performed comedy around the Bay Area at popular venues such as the San Jose Improv, the Throckmorton Theatre, and San Francisco County Jail #3, and at his home in Rohnert Park.
Tickets can be had at sonomacommunitycenter.org and might be available at the door. The center is located at 276 E. Napa St.
