Letter: Time to clean up political mess | Don’t Miss This

Date:

This is a plea to all voters regardless of their political choice. There have been 1,197 mass shootings in the United States in 2022-23 combined, 601 and rising in 2023 alone. We are above the record set in 2022 already.

I don’t know about the rest of the voters, but I think it’s time something is done. The Republican Congress finally came out of their self-destruct mode and claim they are ready to start to work for the American people. The new Speaker of the House was asked what he plans to do about the mass shootings after he was elected Speaker. His reply was he would pray for the victims.

I agree we should all pray for not only the victims but also for our leaders who have the power to change things. Unlike our current office holders, we have been thinking about the mass shooting problem for several years. In the House, their first priority seems to be send Hunter Biden to jail and impeach his father for being his father.

I have a question for all voters. Republicans, Democrats and Independents, just exactly how will that help you personally? Will that resolve the debt problems or the issues we have with immigration? No. Will it do anything to solve the mass shooting problem? No. Will it help reduce poverty in this country? No. Will it strengthen our country in any way? Again, no. If Congress can’t stop this partisan bickering and do the people’s work, we should throw the bums out, as the saying goes.

This country is in a crisis of leadership. We have created a system where we no longer judge and elect our leaders for their qualifications, but for the money they can raise to buy the office they covet. Power is more important than working for the people of this country. I apologize to my children and grandchildren for leaving them this mess to clean up.
