Kentucky Governor places first wager as sports betting becomes legalized across state

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear placed the first legal sports wager in the state’s history Thursday morning as in-person sports betting began.The governor placed the first bet at 10 a.m. at the Churchill Downs Race & Sports Book.Beshear’s bet was a $20 parlay, betting the “over” for University of Kentucky and University of Louisville football win totals and the “under” on Duke’s.In Northern Kentucky, Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman placed the first bet at Florence’s Turfway Park Racing and Gaming, betting on the Bengals to win the Super Bowl with 1,000 to 1 odds.In-person sportsbooks are open in nine locations throughout the state, including two in Northern Kentucky: Turfway and Newport Racing and Gaming.Online betting is not yet available, but is starting on Sept. 28.
