Is Five Nights at Fredy’s accurate to the video game? | Entertainment

Date:

Five Nights at Freddy’s is a video game that many teenagers grew up playing. This video game was turned into a movie and was released in theaters on Oct. 27.

The film, directed by Emma Tammi, was adopted by a once-viral video game in the 2010s. In the video game, the player is positioned as the security guard watching over the arcade called Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.

The player is supposed to protect themselves from the animatronics inside the arcade that become alive at night. The player finds Freddy, a teddy bear, Bonnie, a rabbit, Chica, a chicken and Foxy, a fox, for four nights. On the fifth night, Fredbear, the main antagonist, emerges dressed as a haunted and possessed version of Golden Freddy, the original bear.

Construction management sophomore Sophia Negron grew up playing this game and said she was intrigued to see how they would turn this game into a movie. She had heard lots of negative reviews on the movie from TikTok.

“I saw a TikTok about how Zach Bryan and his girlfriend walked out of the movie because it was so bad,” Negron said.

Negron said she saw the website Rotten Tomatoes, a movie review site, give FNAF a whopping 28%. She said she hoped the movie would give the video game some context because there is no backstory to the game.

After the movie, Negron said she felt it wasn’t as bad as everyone had told her. She said it was a bit slow and felt dragged on during some scenes. She said the movie was very predictable but she didn’t expect it to be so serious and heavy-hearted.

While it was much different from the video game, it had the same idea as the guard watching over the arcade. Yet, in the movie, the guard slept more than actually watching the cameras. There were more characters at the arcade in the movie, including a police officer and the security guard’s sister.

Negron said her favorite part was the end when all the loose ends came together.

“Even though it was predictable, you couldn’t tell how everything was gonna come together,” Negron said.

Negron said she wouldn’t recommend the movie to anyone looking for a thriller. She would recommend it for video game fans, though, because she said it was cool to see the story behind the game.

Marketing sophomore Cassidy Ruda said she thought the movie would be kind of goofy and not super serious. She said the movie was better than she thought it was going to be.

“I liked that they added characters that we could connect with in a sense that the video game doesn’t have,” Ruda said.

She would also recommend it, but not for horror movie fans.
