The Ontonagon Gladiators boys’ basketball team got their first win of the season on Friday as they downed the Baraga Vikings 42-38.

It was a slow start for the Gladiators (1-1) as they just scored 12 points in the first half. However, a strong defense kept the Baraga team to just 17.

The game was won in the fourth quarter as the Gladiatiors outscored the Vikings 19-10 to earn the victory.

“I thought we moved the ball well and got good outside looks, but we were super cold from the outside. We also struggled inside with their size,” said Ontonagon coach Brittney Turin-Jilbert. “Jerry Majurin hit a late game three for us, and Jack Nelson did a really good job commanding the floor and being a leader in the final two minutes.”
