The Georgia women’s basketball team defeated Furman 85-55 on Sunday to secure Coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson’s 400th career win. The win improved the Bulldogs to 6-2 on the season.

I’ve been blessed to have a great group of young women playing for me and a great staff that stayed with me,” Abrahamson-Henderson said. “It’s a combination of everything.”

Zoesha Smith led the Bulldogs in scoring with a season-high 18 points and tallied eight rebounds and a career-high five assists. Javyn Nicholson added 17 points, while Chloe Chapman contributed 10 off the bench. The Bulldogs never trailed after Furman made a 3-pointer for the game’s first basket.

After Furman’s early 3-0 lead, Georgia went on a 9-0 run and never looked back. The Bulldogs had a 10-point lead after the first quarter and kept it up in the second quarter, leading 37-26 at halftime.

The second half was much of the same. Furman went on an 8-0 run, but Georgia quickly shut it down with an 11-0 run of its own that included two triples from Chapman. Georgia led 61-42 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs dominated in the paint, scoring a total of 33 points down low, 20 of which came in the fourth quarter. Georgia finished with a thirty-point lead thanks to performances from Smith and Nicholson, who notched her eighth game this season with a double-figure scoring total.

Defensively, Georgia was led by Jordan Cole and Destiny Thomas, who recorded two blocks each. The Bulldogs finished with five blocks, their second-highest total as a team this season. Georgia also had 26 assists as a team, its highest team total in almost two years, since it recorded 28 against South Alabama on Dec. 21, 2021.
