ATHENS, OH – Edwin John Peterson, 79 years old, of Athens, Ohio died on September 27th, 2023, after many years of battling multiple health challenges. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynne, daughters Patty (Trent) DeBruin, Pam (Bruce) Buitendorp and grandchildren Jed (Roslyn Fleming) DeBruin, Hannah (Matthew) Walker, Claire (Gabe Fuller) DeBruin, Brenden (Jenna Montes) Buitendorp, and Nathan Buitendorp. He is also survived by sister Natalie (Pete) Knudson, 2 nieces, a nephew, and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Betty Peterson and brother and sister-in-law Richard and Terry Peterson.

Ed was born on January 2nd, 1944, to Edwin and Betty Peterson. He graduated from Graveraet High School and attended Augustana College on a football scholarship where he met his lifelong friends Marvin and Elaine Lofquist. After a season-ending injury, he transferred to and obtained a bachelor’s degree from Northen Michigan University.

Upon graduation, he married Lynne in 1966 and began his life-long career at the Social Security Administration. After retirement, he became the first president of the Homeowner’s Association at High Pointe Village, where the children’s park was named in his honor.

Ed was an avid hunter and fisherman and could only be found at his cabin in the woods during turkey, grouse, and deer seasons. During the summers, he always returned to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for days fishing on the lake with his cousin Greg Quayle. He was the proudest grandpa who loved attending sporting events, watching band competitions, enjoying family gatherings, and cheering on his sports teams.

The family is exceptionally grateful for all the wonderful medical personnel that helped give them so many years with their beloved husband, father, and grandfather.

A private celebration of life will be scheduled for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to DaVita of Athens, or The American Heart Association, or The American Diabetes Association.

Arrangements are with Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens. Please share a memory, a note of condolence, or sign the register at www.jagersfuneralhome.com.
