DeLauter, Fox, Messick have big games in Captains’ victory – News-Herald

Guardians 2022 No. 1 Chase DeLauter had four hits and three RBI as the Captains routed visiting South Bend, 10-4, in an Aug. 9 matinee at Classic Auto Group Park.

All four hits were singles for the Captains’ center fielder, who also scored a run. He’s batting .385 with 16 RBI in 29 games since joining the Lake County roster.

Right fielder Jake Fox was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Fox has 16 RBI on the season.

The Captains were 6-for-13 with runners in scoring position and had 14 hits in the game. They collected eight walks.

Starting pitcher Parker Messick (1-3) earned his first victory. He struck out 11 in five shutout innings.

The series continues at 7 p.m., Aug. 10 at Classic Park.
