Carson City author releases travel guide on 395

Date:

Carson City resident and prolific author Stephen H. Provost has released an historical travelogue, “Sierra Highway: U.S. 395 and El Camino Sierra in California and Nevada.”

It’s the fourth volume in the author’s Highways of the West series. Previous volumes have focused on America’s Loneliest Road (Highway 50), the Victory Highway in Nevada and the Lincoln Highway in California.

“There’s history to discover along this road,” according to a news release about the book. “Cities have grown up around it, and boomtowns have become ghost towns beside it.”

The book explores the landscape and history of an area ranging from the Oregon border southward along the eastern Sierra through Reno, Carson City, Mammoth Lakes and then “to the edge of the Mojave Desert.”

“Revisit old 395 where it once continued down all the way to San Diego, the only highway to share part of its length with both the Lincoln Highway and Route 66,” reads the release.

The book is 360 pages with more than 550 images as Provost is also a photographer. The book is available in paperback, Kindle eBook and color hardcover editions and can be found on Amazon. The author will also be selling copies at Dayton Valley Days (Sept. 16-17) and Candy Dance in Genoa (Sept. 23-24).

Earlier this year, Provost started ACES of Northern Nevada, a website featuring authors in the area. For information, visit www.acesofnorthernnevada.com.
