Big Rapids Michigan police search and find person with dementia

BIG RAPIDS — The Big Rapids Police Department was called out Wednesday to assist in a missing persons call regarding a male with dementia/Alzheimer’s. 

At 10:59 p.m., police were called to the area of Ives Avenue where a male’s wife stated that her husband had left their residence after 9 p.m. and that he was not dressed appropriately for cold weather conditions. She also stated that her husband would not know how to get home due to his condition, according to a release from the Big Rapids Police Department. 

The male was eventually located at a residence in the area of 200 Marion Avenue where he showed up confused and looking for a room.

The release said that the male had suffered minor injuries from falling at an unknown location and was taken to Corewell Health Big Rapids Hospital due to his exposure to the cold. His wife later joined him at the hospital.

Various resources were used to locate the missing male and available notifications were sent to Big Rapids city residents.
