IRVING, Texas –
The Division I softball season has moved into week 3. The 19th ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls head to San Marcos, Texas, this week to play 5 games in the River State Classic. Here’s a look at some of the news and notes around the conference heading into the new week:
- Texas Tech led the league in the NFCA/GoRout Poll at No. 2, followed by No. 15 Arizona, No. 22 Arizona State and No. 24 Oklahoma State.
- Represented by UCF, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech at the Clearwater Invitational last week, the Big 12 was the only conference with all participating teams earning a winning record at the tournament. The league’s win-loss percentage (.750) was the best among its Power Four peers.
- This week’s schedule features top-25 matchups against No. 3/3 Texas (twice against Arizona), No. 12/10 Stanford (vs. Arizona), No. 23/24 Clemson (vs. Baylor) and No. 23 Washington (vs. BYU).
- BU’s Amber Toven (player), UCF’s Isabella Vega (pitcher) and Utah’s Mia Gomez (freshman) were named Week 2’s Big 12 Players of the Week.
- Toven tallied 10 hits, 11 RBI and nine runs scored with a .739 slugging percentage. She accounted for almost one-third of BU’s total RBI last week.
- Vega posted a 0.00 ERA last week after only giving up nine hits in 15.1 innings. She threw 15 strikeouts and earned three winning decisions in four appearances.
- Gomez registered a .563 batting average as Utah went 4-1. The freshman went 9-for-16 at the plate, totaling four RBI and three runs.
- After two weeks of play, the Big 12 has a record of 82-33, the second-best winning percentage (.713) across all conferences.
- Arizona’s duo of Regan Shockey and Sereniti Trice rank third in the Conference with a .529 batting average.
- Baylor freshman Kaygen Marshall’s two homeruns against San Diego State (2/13) were the first time since 2021 that a BU freshman hit two homers in the same game.
- KU’s Jennifer McFalls picked up her 150th win at the helm of the Jayhawk programs following KU’s win over South Florida (2/13).
- OSU captured two top-10 wins on Saturday against then-No. 8/8 Texas A&M and then-No. 6/7 UCLA, marking the first time since 1994 that the Cowgirls have defeated a pair of top-10 teams on the same day.
- TTU’s Mihyia Davis’ 18 hits ranks within the top 10 nationally. The senior has recorded at least one hit in 11 of 12 appearances.
