The Augusta County Fair is returning for another summer of fun.
Ellen Shank, the executive director of the fair, said she is excited to welcome everyone back and hopes people have a good time.
“Highlights of the job are seeing the kids have fun, watching the track events all come off, weather permitting, and booking the shows,” Shank said.
Highlights of this year’s fair include a balloon artist who will do stunt shows, according to Shank. The fair will also feature a shark exhibit to educate children about the fascinating creatures of the sea.
“[The sharks] are coming in from Wisconsin, so they may not be with us until late on Tuesday, but they’re going to be with us for the rest of the week,” Shank said.
The Flying Cortes Trapeze Spectacular, a family that has performed at circuses nationwide, will perform at the fair. The Butterfly Kingdom, where attendees can have close encounters with butterflies, is making a return to the fair.
Shank said she’s excited for the sharks and the balloon stunts, but is most excited for the Kids Pedal Tractor Pull at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
“Those little legs pumping up and down to make their sled go is just very exciting for us,” she said.
The fair will kick off with its Super Saturday event at 9:30 a.m.
“On that particular day, we’ll have a wine tasting on the grounds,” Shank said. “We are having the annual beauty pageant with us, we’re having the jackpot show that will be there. And later that day, we’ll be having motocross, so that’s going to be pretty exciting.”
After Super Saturday, the official fair week will begin on Tuesday and end on Saturday.
