American Airlines lets AAdvantage members upgrade to Business Class using Systemwide Upgrades during peak holiday periods. The limited offer ends September 30 and covers select domestic and international routes. No standard upgrade inventory is required if seats remain unsold.
Eligible Premium Economy tickets purchased by September 30 can be upgraded to Business Class on flights between November 22-28 and December 20-January 1. International coverage includes U.S.-Europe, South America, and Asia routes, excluding Auckland, Brisbane, Delhi, Sydney, Tel Aviv, and Hawaii. Transcontinental routes like BOS-LAX and JFK-SFO are included both ways. Only paid tickets qualify; award or partner flights are excluded.
Requests must be submitted via website, app, or phone and are processed separately within three to four hours. Approved upgrades appear in reservations immediately, though ticket reissue and SWU deduction may take seven to ten business days. Travelers need sufficient SWUs for all passengers in the booking. American does not guarantee upgrades but will confirm them if unsold Business Class seats exist at processing time.
