The Kunlun Lubricating Ecosystem Partner Conference, themed “Innovation for Synergy, Empowerment in Silence,” was held in Beijing on August 12. In the presence of its ecosystem partners across the industrial value chain, PetroChina Lubricant Company unveiled a comprehensive brand renewal for its flagship brand, Kunlun Lubricating, spanning its brand identity, product portfolio and service capabilities.

At the event, Li Shaohui, Deputy Chief Engineer of PetroChina Lubricant Company, unveiled the brand’s product upgrades. Kunlun Lubricating’s gasoline engine oil brand, Kunlun Tianrun, has become the first full product line to meet the world’s most stringent API SQ standard. The line successfully resolves low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) technical challenges to deliver more reliable protection under low-speed, high-load conditions. Furthermore, it features a low-ash, eco-friendly formulation that protects exhaust after-treatment devices like gasoline particulate filters (GPFs), fully complying with China VI emission standards. Concurrently, the diesel engine oil brand Kunlun Tianwei launched a product certified under China’s first independently developed diesel oil standard (D1), extending oil change intervals from 60,000 kilometers to between 120,000 and 150,000 kilometers.
In the industrial oil sector, Kunlun Lubricating’s industrial line centers on “reliability.” To date, it has successfully replaced more than 40 imported lubricant products, overcome over 20 bottleneck technical challenges, and built a comprehensive product matrix covering oils, additives, greases, and fluids. These developments safeguard critical applications including ultra-deep wells, wind power equipment, high-speed rail systems and nuclear power facilities.
Mi Liping, Party Secretary and Vice President of the PetroChina Shanghai Lubricating Materials R&D Center, explained that Kunlun Lubricating’s service model has evolved through three distinct stages: from basic Product Delivery, to System Delivery through proprietary lubrication management solutions, and ultimately to Safety-as-a-Service.
In the second stage, Kunlun Lubricating established a standardized process comprising seven professional modules tailored for large steel enterprises, transforming experience-dependent lubrication tasks into a data-driven scientific management system. During its collaboration with Harbin Electric Materials Company Limited, Kunlun Lubricating streamlined the client’s original lubrication portfolio—which previously covered more than 40 brands and 180 product types—down to 78 varieties under the core Kunlun brand. This reduced overall procurement costs by over 23% while securing the supply chain for major national equipment.
Against the backdrop of the national “East Data, West Computing” initiative—a strategic effort to rebalance computing infrastructure and bolster supply capabilities—and the parallel expansion of renewable energy systems, the integration of computing power and energy infrastructure has become a key pillar of China’s new infrastructure development.
Kunlun Lubricating addresses this evolving landscape by providing end-to-end lubrication solutions across the entire value chain, from power generation and transmission to energy storage and consumption. Its coverage includes ultra-supercritical units, hydroelectric plants, pumped-storage facilities, nuclear reactors, and wind turbines to safeguard essential infrastructure. Because AI computing centers generate massive thermal loads due to their intense energy requirements, heat dissipation remains a critical operational hurdle. On the power generation side, Kunlun Lubricating ensures a stable energy supply to support continuous computing operations. On the cooling side, its proprietary immersion cooling fluids and cold-plate cooling solutions deliver efficient thermal management alongside full protection for server components. Today, these solutions operate reliably across multiple national supercomputing and AI centers.
During the ecosystem partner roundtable, representatives from FAW Jiefang, Harbin Electric Materials Company Limited, Mingyang Smart Energy, Inspur Group, and China Electrical Equipment shared their joint innovation milestones with Kunlun Lubricating:
- FAW Jiefang and Kunlun Lubricating co-developed lubricants engineered for extreme environments—such as Mohe and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau—and co-launched products boasting a 100,000-kilometer oil change interval, significantly reducing total lifecycle costs for fleet operators.
- Harbin Electric Materials Company Limited noted that the partnership has transitioned from a traditional buyer-seller relationship into a “strategic symbiosis” that ensures supply chain autonomy and security for critical equipment.
- Mingyang Smart Energy and Kunlun Lubricating advanced joint projects from R&D through batch application, reducing wind turbine lubricant maintenance costs by nearly 30% over their operational lifecycle.
- Inspur Group and China Electrical Equipment highlighted achievements in data center cooling optimization and the domestic substitution of ultra-high-voltage transformer oil, respectively.
Tang Zhongping, General Manager of PetroChina Lubricant Company, shared the brand’s strategic vision, stating that Kunlun Lubricating is committed to becoming a world-class lubricant solutions provider that is deeply rooted in the industry, highly responsible, customer-centric, and reputable. Moving forward, the company plans to dedicate core R&D resources toward green and smart lubrication solutions while constructing an open ecosystem gateway. By opening its R&D laboratories, empowering its service network, and backing favorable industry policies, PetroChina Lubricant Company aims to convert its technological assets, distribution channels, and operational experience into shared value for its ecosystem partners.
At the conclusion of the event, Ma Zongli, together with partner representatives, officially launched the ecosystem empowerment ceremony, signaling a collective commitment to strengthen the brand and its broader industry ecosystem.
The conference marked a major milestone in Kunlun Lubricating’s evolution from a product manufacturer into an integrated product-and-service solution provider, reinforcing its pledge to drive green, intelligent, and sustainable development alongside its partners.
