Europe jet fuel concerns prompt travel questions for summer trips

Date:

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — In April, the head of the International Energy Agency said Europe had about six weeks of jet fuel left. Now that summer travel season has arrived, Arizona’s Family checked in with local travel agents about how this could impact vacation plans.

Many travelers are asking if they should reconsider European travel plans.

Angela Rice, co-founder of Boutique Travel Advisors, said she doesn’t think travelers should be overly concerned and suggests continuing with plans. Europe gets around one-third of its gas imports from Norway.

Rice predicts less interruption with international flights but said it’s possible there could be disruptions on regional flights in European countries.

“I don’t think it’s a situation where fuel is just going to stop becoming available in different markets, but rather it’s the making sure on a day to day basis, those last flights have enough fuel,” Rice said. “So, I think it’s less to do with the international flights that leave the states in the evening and tend to leave Europe in the morning.”

Rice suggests travelers consider renting a car or taking a train instead of flying from country to country overseas.
