Traffic pattern changes around Rhode Island could affect weekend travel

Date:

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) –In addition to the closures on Route 10 in Cranston, a number of lane changes and other road work may affect travelers this weekend.

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said that, starting Friday at 8p.m., it will change the traffic pattern on Route 146 South under the Hawkins Street Bridge in Providence.

RIDOT said all traffic will be shifting to the right, and the new traffic pattern will remain until the end of the year.

RIDOT also said it would be shifting travel lanes on the George Washington Highway Bridge, which is located between Harris Road and West Reservoir Road in Smithfield, also starting Friday.

There will be one lane of travel in each direction and the change will remain until late fall.

Also on Friday, RIDOT closed Douglas Pike in Burrillville to begin work on the canal bridge.

The Burrillville Police Department said the work is expected to last for 90 days and detours will be in place.
